2-Ingredient Choco-Banana Treats (Paleo, Vegan)
There's still room for treats in a wholesome diet. Sometimes you need that hot fudge sundae with extra peanuts because ICE CREAM TRUCK. Summer only lasts so long, after all. But for your average day, how about a make-ahead low-calorie frozen treat with a creamy centre and crispy chocolate coating? We thought so.
Even if your tummy and skin are happy eating grains, changing your definition of a "treat" can also make processed foods and treats taste overwhelmingly sweet and artificial, and you won't feel the temptation to overindulge as you have in the past. Give it a try — cut out added sugars and processed foods for 2 weeks and the next time someone serves you a grocery store pastry or jarred tomato sauce, I guarantee you'll taste every bit of sugar, salt and hydrogenated fat. And not in a good way.
This recipe is easy to make with your little ones. Add it to your dessert repertoire and substitute some ice cream, cookies and candy out! Except when the ice cream truck comes around. Then you should definitely, definitely, hit that.
2-Ingredient Choco-Banana Treats
No added sugar. So, basically, you can eat them all yourself and pretend you never made them in the first place.
- 2-3 bananas
- 1/2 bag (175 g) semi-sweet or pure dark chocolate chips (more if you prefer a thicker coating or have giant bananas)
- Place a saucepan over low-medium heat with a few cups of water; bring to a simmer. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Peel and cut bananas into 1/2" - 3/4" slices.
- Create a "double boiler" by placing a stainless steel or glass bowl over the simmering pot.
- Melt chocolate chips in bowl over simmering water, stirring frequently.
- Turn element off so as not to overcook chocolate, and use a toothpick or fork (or your fingers) to dunk banana slices into melted chocolate, then place on parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Place in freezer at least 2 hours or more.
- Pretend you didn't make them and eat them all.
- It is important to keep your water at a simmer, not a boil. If you prefer, you may use your microwave to melt the chocolate chips. The double boiler method will keep the chocolate warm while you work your way through the pieces of banana; if you microwave the chocolate, you may need to re-warm as you go.
